In continuation of my despatch No.202 of
the 9th.instant, and in reply to the concluding sentence of
your despatch No.89 of the 30th.March, I have the honour to
transmit for your information the enclosed copies of minutes
by the Director of Public Works: and the Medical Officer of
Health on the subject of Mr.Drury's scheme, and the revenue
derivable therefrom, for the substitution of Government for
Latrines in the City.

2. There are enormous difficulties both in
the matter of construction of underground Latrines and of
resumption of private ones, and the scheme is not in my
opinion practicable.
The provision of more Laurine accommoda-
tion is an urgent necessity, but the provision of the accommo-
dation is fraught with much difficulty in a City where almost
every square foot of ground is already covered with buildings.
